About us

The Viti Indigenous Tourism Alliance (VITA) is a non-governmental organisation that supports and strengthens Indigenous tourism involvement and engagement throughout Fiji. VITA aims to be widely recognised as a regional leader in resilient and sustainable indigenous tourism development. We work with local communities, entrepreneurs and social collectives to develop regenerative tourism experiences that preserve their cultural heritage and natural resources. Our team is made up of experts in sustainable tourism, community development, and cultural preservation.

Indigenous Fijian flourishing through tourism

Our work

As the tourism industry in Fiji recovers from the shock of COVID-19, VITA has set its sights on moving forward in the most adaptable and sustainable manner possible. VITA understands that this undertaking will present known and unknown challenges and is prepared to face them head-on. VITA will forge national and international partnerships that include: the Ministry of ITaukei Affairs, Tourism Fiji, Fijian Holdings, FTHA, National Trust of Fiji, South Pacific Tourism Organisation, and Regenerative Vanua - the input of these partners is invaluable as VITA works with them to transform the industry in Fiji.

VITA members showed resilience throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and through other shocks such as cyclones and floods. These learnings in adaptivity and strength through indigenous partnerships are at the core of what VITA will use to create an alliance of all indigenous Fijians connected to the tourism industry. To achieve our 2022-2025 targets for the Indigenous tourism industry in Fiji VITA has developed its inaugural Action Plan which will be a core document to guide implementation.

Our Priorities

VITA has set priorities that support the engagement and growth of the Indigenous tourism industry. Moreover, it aims to increase meaningful and beneficial relationships from tourism – those that facilitate indigenous Fijian flourishing. Recognising that this undertaking will present known and unknown challenges, VITA is prepared to use proven strategies to secure future funding resources.

VITA ’S THREE MAIN PRIORITIES OF THE 2023-26 ACTION PLAN

  • Inspiring VITA members nationwide to rebuild or refocus their business offerings through targeted business support, education, and training.

  • Leveraging partnership opportunities and investments with National, Regional, and International donor partners to support VITA and its initiatives.

  • Strengthening VITA as the national leader and advocate for Indigenous tourism operators and stabilising funding through government, partners and members.
